With 29 gold medals, 17 silver medals and three bronze medals, Arla Foods Monday won the Primax prize as the best foreign supplier of cheese in Germany.

The Primax prize is awarded by Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft, DLG, the independent agricultural organisation which carries out annual quality assessments of agricultural products.

This year, 1,855 dairy products from Germany and dairy companies from nine other European countries were assessed.

The presentation was the focus of considerable attention at the Anuga fair where representatives from most of the world’s food companies are currently gathered.

The Primax award is divided into two categories – a German section and an international section. Arla Foods, which won the cheese category (including sliced cheese and cream cheese) competed against dairy companies from eight other European countries.

In competition with the German dairy companies, Arla Foods came second to Karwendel Werke Huber gmbh. Tuffi Campina Emzett, the Dutch company Campina’s German subsidiary, was third.

Henrik Stigkær, Director of Arla Foods’ German subsidiary said:

“It’s quite exceptional that we’ve received recognition for sliced and cream cheese in such a huge market as Germany. The Primax prize will strengthen our belief in our capabilities and emphasise that we produce high quality products.”

DLG’s assessments are based on taste, appearance and packaging. The products are also sampled to see whether they fulfil the requirements for such products. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded and the entrants that achieve most points win the Primax prize. x

After the award ceremony, the Primax Prize was prominently displayed at the Arla Foods' stand.
