Arla Foods’ Supervisory Board has approved a plan for Arla Foods’ organic business which aims at harmonising the organic regulations in Denmark and Sweden and adapting the company’s organic procedures to market conditions.
The Board reiterated that “the organic business must run on commercial terms” which means that a balance must be maintained between the supply and demand of organic milk. This is not currently the case in Denmark in that more than half the volume of organic milk produced is used for conventional cheese and fermented milk.
The Board decided to monitor the natural decline in the number of organic producers and review the situation in 2004.
