Arla Foods: Three critical areas members of the European Parliament must prioritize to secure a sustainable food system

As one of Europe’s largest dairy cooperatives, Arla Foods shares its vision for a prosperous and sustainable food system in the EU and calls for a collaborative approach to deliver on the EU’s sustainability ambitions.

The European elections of 2024 have brought a new wave of MEPs – re-electees and newcomers alike - to Brussels, eager to shape the future of the EU and its policies. As a farmer-owned cooperative with 8,000 farmer owners in seven European countries, we would ask them to actively engage with us, our farmers and the entire agricultural community to create a policy framework that supports the agri-food sector in accelerating the sustainability transition, ensures the long-term economic viability of the sector and strengthens a competitive EU both at ‘home’ and in a global market.

At Arla, we have been working with our farmer owners for many years to produce high quality dairy products with an exceptionally strong nutritional profile while minimising our environmental footprint. We have learned a lot during his journey and based on these insights, I would like to share the three critical issues that we believe are essential for a successful transition.
